Children and Youth
Families are welcome!
The children and young Friends stay with the adults in Meeting for Worship for the first 15 minutes, then go to their age group. If you prefer, your youngsters may stay with you in worship, as long as they can be comfortable in the quiet.
Infant through pre-schooler care is provided by Hanover Friends Meeting on Sundays during Meeting for Worship. Spiritual enrichment is offered through a mixture of guided activities and open play time.
First Day (Sunday) School for our younger Friends (kindergarten through elementary grades) meets at the same time as Meeting for Worship. Children participate in a wide variety of activities organized around a monthly topic relating to a Quaker testimony. While there are always adults prepared to spend time with the children of the Meeting, on the first and third Sundays a focused curriculum is offered by our First Day School teachers.
The Young Friends program brings together middle school and high school youth of the Meeting. Central to our program is the theme “Let our Lives Speak,” which serves as a way to convey to our young people that Quakerism is not just a Sunday event but rather provides deeply rooted spiritual beliefs and values to help us manage our daily interactions, behavior, decisions, and other concerns. This central theme also helps integrate any chosen topic of faith with actions, practices, or projects. During our meetings, the Young Friends are encouraged to consider and determine our monthly focus and related activities. Through this process, we strive to cultivate and nurture spiritual growth among us, explore Quakerism, and create opportunities to see how our activities grow out of and make manifest Quaker testimonies.
